A video shows two men attacking a woman on a New York City street with a baseball bat.

The attack happened around 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Lower Manhattan. Police are still looking for the suspects.

In the video, the woman is walking on Monroe Street and takes her phone out of her bag. Then, two masked men appear and attack her. One punches her, and the other hits her with a baseball bat five times. They seem to try to take her bag but run away without it.

The woman’s family told CBS New York that the shouts of people nearby and the brave actions of community members scared off the attackers and helped get quick assistance.

Neighbor Jenny Yu saw the victim after the attack and said, “She just got into an ambulance. I asked her how she felt, and she said she was really hurt.”

CBS New York’s Jenna DeAngelis reported that the woman was leaving work and was close to her workplace when attacked. She works at a daycare, and her sister, speaking through a translator, said she is stressed and in pain.

The 58-year-old woman has bruises on her leg and head, as shown in the video. Her family says she is now recovering at home but needs help with daily tasks.

The translator also mentioned that the victim’s sister is very scared and hopes the police can make the community safer. The family thanked the community members who scared off the attackers and said they want to raise awareness and seek justice.

Police are still searching for the suspects.
