On Friday, AT&T revealed that hackers had accessed records of calls and texts of “nearly all” its cellular customers over a six-month period from May 1, 2022, to October 31, 2022.
In their statement, AT&T clarified that the hacked data does not include the content of the calls or texts. It also does not include personal information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates, or other identifiable information.
AT&T also mentioned that the hack affected records from January 2, 2023, but only for a “very small number of customers.”
The company stated that they discovered the illegal download in April and are working with law enforcement on the issue. They noted that “at least one person has been apprehended.” Although the files do not contain the actual content of calls or texts, they do reveal the telephone numbers that interacted with an AT&T number during the specified periods.
“AT&T stated that, as of now, they do not believe the data is publicly available,” said the company in their statement.
