A bodega worker in New York was hit in the head with a hammer by a couple who got upset after their request for a refund on a $30 hookah was denied.

The woman, known as Auralia and a mother of three, is in the hospital recovering from the attack.

The incident happened on East 188th Street in the Fordham area of the Bronx. The couple, known for previous thefts and vandalism at the store, became violent when they were told they couldn’t return the damaged hookah for a refund. They allegedly knocked Auralia unconscious with the hammer.

Local residents are now calling for increased security measures and a panic button system in the area. Auralia, who has worked for the store owners for seven years, had recently moved to this location, believing it to be safer. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the assault.
