The Georgia Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that a judge in metro Atlanta should be removed from her position after being investigated for many ethics violations.
This decision came shortly after the judge was arrested at a nightclub in Atlanta.
Douglas County Probate Judge Christina Peterson was charged with simple battery against a police officer at the Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge on Peachtree Street.
Peterson was already facing ethics charges brought against her by the Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) in 2022.
The JQC decided that Peterson should be removed from her position, and on Tuesday, the Georgia Supreme Court agreed with this decision. The ruling is separate from Peterson’s recent arrest.
“In conclusion, considering her multiple violations of the CJC rules in several matters—some showing a clear disregard for the law, court rules, and judicial conduct rules; the pattern of violations proved by clear and convincing evidence; the very concerning nature of some violations, especially regarding the criminal contempt matter; and her behavior during the JQC inquiry, we conclude that removal is the appropriate sanction.”
