Over this weekend in Chicago, there have been multiple incidents of gun violence, with a total of 27 people shot and four of them fatally, according to police.
One incident occurred late Friday night in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. A gunman drove past two men near Le Moyne and Linder, shooting them. A 24-year-old man was critically injured, shot in the shoulder and neck, and taken to Stroger Hospital. A 40-year-old man was shot multiple times and taken to West Suburban Hospital in fair condition. The shooter fled the scene, and no arrests have been made.
In another incident early Saturday morning in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, a concealed-carry license holder was involved in a shootout. Two men, aged 36 and 49, were arguing at a gas station when the younger man fired at the older man. The older man, who had a concealed-carry license, returned fire and wounded the younger man. The 36-year-old was critically injured and taken to St. Bernard Hospital. The incident is under investigation by Area One detectives.
Later that evening, a fatal shooting occurred on the Northwest Side in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. A 35-year-old man was found shot multiple times in the 3300-block of West Franklin Street. He was taken to the hospital but later died. The identity of the victim has not been released, and there are no suspects in custody. CPD Area Four Detectives are investigating it as a homicide.
Early Sunday morning, three people were shot and killed in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side. The victims, two men and a woman, were arguing with two unidentified individuals on East 76th Street. The two suspects then fired shots from a silver SUV, hitting all three victims who later died in the hospital. The suspects fled the scene, and no other injuries were reported. CPD detectives are investigating this incident as a homicide.
The investigations into these shootings are ongoing, with no arrests made in any of the cases so far.
