DUNBAR – Early this morning, around 6 a.m., emergency teams were called to the scene of a two-car crash on Highway 2. The accident happened in the lanes going west. Because of this, westbound traffic had to be rerouted for most of the morning, including through Highway 67 in Dunbar.

The eight-mile stretch of Highway 2 between Syracuse and Dunbar in Otoe County has been very dangerous so far in 2024.

Here are some other serious accidents that have happened in this area this year:

In March, two women from Florida lost their lives near Syracuse. They were stopped on the road because of an obstruction when a truck and a semi-trailer crashed into their SUV near Road 36.

In May, a car was driving the wrong way on the highway east of Syracuse. It hit another car, causing the death of a 56-year-old woman from Tecumseh.

In June, an 87-year-old woman from St. Joseph, Missouri, was killed near 34th Road. This happened when a GMC Sierra drove into an intersection and was hit by an eastbound Jeep.
