A man who robbed another person at a gas station was killed in a car crash after the victim chased him.

According to initial reports confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred in L.A.’s West Adams neighborhood on Saturday evening. A 21-year-old man was robbed by a group of armed men at a gas station.

The robbers fled in a white sedan, and the victim pursued them in a Mercedes-Benz SUV. During the chase, the victim crashed his SUV into the suspects’ sedan, causing it to hit a light pole at Adams Boulevard and West View Street. Video from the scene, obtained by KTLA, shows the sedan losing control and crashing.

The collision resulted in the death of one suspect, believed to be the sedan’s driver. After the crash, the other suspects escaped from the wrecked car and fired shots at the 21-year-old victim before fleeing. Police used a K9 unit to find and arrest at least one suspect hiding in a nearby backyard.

The victim stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police. It’s unclear if he was injured during the incident or what was stolen from him initially. The LAPD is investigating the case as a homicide, though it’s not clear if the victim of the robbery is currently in custody.
