Dayvion Joseph George, 18, appeared in Pierce County Superior Court on charges including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and first-degree robbery following an incident at a Sportco store in Fife. The charges stem from an attempted robbery that resulted in the shooting of a security guard over the weekend.

According to charging documents, Fife police responded to reports of a shooting at the Sportco store on 20th Street East. It was reported that George and another individual attempted to shoplift merchandise. When security guards intervened, a confrontation ensued. During the altercation, George allegedly shot one of the security guards in the left arm.

At George’s arraignment on Monday, a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf, and Commissioner Philip Thornton set his bail at $600,000.

Prosecutors described the shooting as an “execution-style attempt,” stating that George produced a gun and fired at the security guard while standing over him. Another security guard at the scene returned fire, prompting George and his accomplice to flee.

George was later detained by Milton police in the 5400 block of 23rd Street East. During a subsequent search along the path George took, officers recovered stolen merchandise, magazines, and ammunition. The search for the second suspect is ongoing.

The injured security guard was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The investigation into the incident remains active, with authorities continuing to gather evidence.
