A store clerk in the Bronx described how two thieves dragged him outside and beat him unconscious before fleeing, leaving him injured on the ground.

Sam Balfour, 63, was working at the Mobil gas station mart, where he has been for 13 years, when the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. According to Balfour, the two men entered the store pretending to be customers. One asked about a product while the other stole items from the refrigerator unnoticed.

Security cameras captured the moment when one of the thieves tried to leave with stolen goods. Balfour attempted to stop them by locking the door, but they forced it open and dragged him outside. In the struggle, Balfour was hit and fell, hitting his head on the ground and losing consciousness. He was taken to Montefiore Medical Center and is now in stable condition.

Balfour, who is from Ghana and has worked hard in his job, now suffers from dizziness and pain in his head, neck, and shoulder due to the attack. This wasn’t his first encounter with thieves at the store; previously, he had thwarted an attempt to steal from the cash register.

He expressed frustration at the attackers, emphasizing that they could find legitimate work instead of resorting to theft, which harms people’s livelihoods.
