The mother of an 11-year-old girl who went missing in 2022 is now considered a suspect in her disappearance. Madalina Cojocari was last seen getting off her school bus in Cornelius, North Carolina on November 21, 2022. Her parents reported her missing on December 15, after initially saying she disappeared on November 23.

In a recent Facebook post, Cornelius Police named Diana Cojocari as a suspect but did not explain why. Diana Cojocari had been in jail for not reporting her daughter missing and was released recently. She may face deportation to Moldova, where she’s from, as she was living in the US on a green card.

Madalina’s stepfather, Christopher Palmiter, was also convicted for not reporting her missing and received supervised probation. Police emphasized finding Madalina and asked for the public’s help by sharing her photo and providing any information about her whereabouts.

Earlier in the investigation, police said Madalina’s parents knew more than they shared. Diana Cojocari claimed she last saw Madalina in her room on November 23 before she disappeared. She waited until late December to report her missing because she feared conflict with her husband, according to police documents.

Before Madalina disappeared, her mother had asked a relative to help them leave their home, citing problems in her marriage and wanting a divorce.
