A worker from the New York City Parks Department discovered a man deceased when opening a playground in Manhattan on Thursday morning, as reported by police.
The man, thought to be in his 40s, was found unconscious on a bench at Little Flower Playground near Madison and Jefferson streets on the Lower East Side around 6 a.m., according to the NYPD.
Police noted that the man appeared wet from the rain overnight and had no obvious injuries. They do not suspect he was homeless.
Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The medical examiner will investigate to determine the cause of death.
