NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City Fire and Rescue responded to a travel trailer fire in the northbound lanes of Highway 75, five miles south of Nebraska City, at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Fire Chief Rob Schreiner said passersby helped by dousing the fire with water and a fire extinguisher.
Schreiner explained that an overheated tire melted some skirting. The owners from Topeka, Kan., were on their way to trade the trailer in Lincoln. Despite the incident, Schreiner said the camper still has plenty of trade-in value.
Brianna Pfeiffer was the first to come across the scene and had water in her vehicle. Her brother-in-law, Justin Pfeiffer, was hauling to the elevator and stopped with a fire extinguisher.
An OPPD crew working nearby also stopped to assist.
