NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City Food Pantry reports its largest 10-11 Can Care-a-Van ever.

Statewide, the 37th annual Can Care-a-Van collected 176,000 pounds of food over six days in June, including 16,000 pounds from Nebraska City.

Auburn collected 455 pounds, and Beatrice gathered 5,464 pounds.

Nebraska City Food Pantry organizer Mary Stevenson said donors surpassed the goal of 10,000 pounds with 16,452 pounds collected. Each dollar donated equates to two pounds of food.

Letter from the Food Pantry Committee

To the Citizens of Nebraska City,

Thank you for your continued support of the Nebraska City Food Pantry. It is gifts like these that keep our pantry open.

The Channel 10-11 Can Care-a-Van was a great success, bringing in over 16,000 lbs. for the local pantry. This total includes both monetary and product donations.

A special thank you to the local pantry volunteers, the Fareway Store, Dollar Fresh, the EMTs of Nebraska City, and volunteers from the American National Bank and the EDGE program.

These donations will help continue the weekend food backpack program at Nebraska City elementary schools and keep our pantry shelves well stocked.

Thanks again, Nebraska City, for your generous donations. All donations will stay local.
