South Bend, IN – The National Weather Service has issued an enhanced risk alert for severe thunderstorms in Northern Indiana tonight. The Storm Prediction Center has updated the forecast, expanding the highest risk area and indicating imminent severe weather conditions.

The NWS predicts the storms will start around 10 p.m. and continue until 4 a.m. The main threats are wind gusts up to 75 mph, heavy rain, and possible minor flooding. The highest threat level is west of IN-9.

Confidence is high that strong storms will occur, but predicting their exact intensity and path is less certain. This uncertainty means residents across Northern Indiana should stay alert and be prepared for sudden weather changes.

Severe hazards include wind gusts of 60-70 mph, potentially exceeding 75 mph in the enhanced risk area. Heavy rainfall could lead to minor flooding, especially in low-lying areas. There’s also a chance of tornadoes and large hail in some regions.
