HASTINGS, Neb. – Weather Update

Evening and Overnight:

Tonight and overnight, most of our area will be quiet. However, there is a chance of isolated strong to severe storms in the far western counties of our Local4 viewing area. This includes towns like Grant, Imperial, and Benkelman. If any storms start this evening out west, they will move southeast and leave the area. Additionally, some isolated showers and storms might develop overnight in South Dakota. These storms will weaken as they move south into our area. Therefore, there’s only a slight chance of rain and isolated thunderstorms early Friday morning.

Friday:

The big story for the weekend is the heat. Starting tomorrow, temperatures will rise noticeably with partly to mostly sunny skies. Highs will range from the upper 80s in the northeast to around 100° in the south and west. The southeast winds will be a bit stronger, which might provide some relief. There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms, with some severe storms possible in Western Nebraska.

Weekend and Monday:

The hottest days will be over the weekend and Monday. On Saturday, highs will range from the lower 90s in the northeast to the lower 100s in the south and west. Sunday might be the hottest day overall, with highs from the mid-90s in the northeast to the mid-100s in the southwest. Slightly cooler air will start moving in from the north on Monday, with highs ranging from around 90° in the north to the mid-100s in the south. Higher dew points will make it feel even hotter, with heat index values between 100° and 110° during the afternoon and early evening.

Next Week:

Temperatures will start to cool down as cooler air moves in from the north. Highs on Tuesday will range from the mid-80s in the north to the mid-90s in the south. By Wednesday, highs will mostly be in the low to mid-80s. There will also be chances for showers and thunderstorms from Monday night through Wednesday as a cold front moves southward. Highs are expected to stay mostly in the 80s for the rest of the week and into next weekend.
